BullyPedia & Beyond| Interview with Big Ran Founder of BullyPedia

Not to long ago, bully breeders and enthusiasts created their pedigrees by hand using pencil and paper or using MS Word, saving it to their computer and scanning it to be  upload to their website. Oh, and it did not contain any images for reference. You see how much maintainance, management and mistakes on a pedigree could be made along the way? Along came BullyPedia; An online pedigree site that is dedicated to “American Bullies”.

In 2010 it was unheared of, much less to be a trusted resource by breeders, enthusiasts & bully owners alike- That was 2 years ago. Fast forward to 2012, BullyPedia ranks number one in american bully pedigrees in Google,Yahoo, Bing, AOL and all the top search engines in the world. 100,000 pedigrees, 80,000 images,10,000 members, 2,500 visitors daily, 65,000 visitors monthly while remaining FREE, yes i said “FREE” to create, upload and save your pedigrees all in one place. We caught up with Big Ran at the Allentown BullyExtravaganza 2 and chopped it up with big homie and here’s how it went down.

Jayski: What’s good doggy?

Ran: Wassup Jay! It’s feels good to finally sit down with you and complete this interview!lol. Aprreciate it Jayski.

Jayski: Tell our readers what your involvement with BullyPedia nowadays?

Ran: When we started BP, it was just me. I created the pedigree database, answered emails, promoted the site, picked up the coffee for the team and washed their cars too.Just Kidding! The site was slow to gain traffic simply because it was a new product, untested and has a weird name. It short, i did anything & everything to promote BullyPedia. You know what i mean?

Jayski: Lol. I know what you mean big dogg. We get hundreds of email and inquries weekly and i don’t think it’ll slow down any. I need a raise.lol

Ran: Me too. On a serious note, my involvement now revolves in expanding BP brand to include other bully breeds like Shorty Bulls, French Bulldog, Old English Bulldogs & American Bulldogs. We’ve toyed with the idea for the last year and the more i thought about it, the more it made sense to be included in the BullyPedia family of pedigrees. Who would know more about starting up an online pedigree than us?

Jayski: Now that the site has gone viral and gaining momentum everday, what do you see happening to BullyPedia? Meaning, the current state and future of the site?

Ran: Our main focus will always be bully pedigrees.The bully community has been our strongest supporter and we’ll stand by them, bacause without our members, BP would be just like any other site. The people controls the site, its content, its pedigrees & how its used. I’m just fortunate to be apart of a movement.The future looks very bright for BP, we have new features coming online very soon such as a class dropdown menu that will allow our members to “select” lets say, “all ABKC Standard Champions” or “display only female ABKC Champions”  or “find all male pocket pit champions” broken down by the year, sex & classes. You know what this means? This means, that you will no longer hunt down last years champions, it will all be displayed in a click of a button! I can’t reveal too much so i’ll just say stay tuned for BullyPedia version 3.0!
Jayski: With so much success and attention BP has been getting, there’s always other entities that ride the BullyPedia coat tails. Any stories you’d like to share?

Ran: Man, the pedigree competition is funny. Once we launched BP, there were bully ped site that started to pop up everywhere and a couple of them (not saying any names) flat out copied our content word by word! At least take down the words “BullyPedia” before going live. lol. I really don’t pay much to the other sites, i feel that i’m my biggest competition the others sites will just fade away while BP is growing each day.
Jayski: You told me recently about a company approaching you about BullyPedia. What happened to that?

Ran: We’ve gotten approached by a couple publishing companies to buy out our site outright.We turned them down. I feel that if we sell BP, it would be a great injustice to our loyal members to build a site, make it successful due to the people and turn around and walk away. BullyPedia is personal to me,i sacrificed my family time, my own money and plenty of sleepless nights coding the pedigree database. So for me to sell BP, is to sell my soul to the devil. lol. Were here to stay for a very long time.

Jayski: How does BP make money if it doesn’t charge for membership?

Ran: BP was not designed to turn over profits, it is free for our members to use as a tool for breeding, researching, recording peds, picture references and much more. Like any other site, we gotta’ stay afloat some how and our advertisement does that for us. The money is used to maintain our pedigree database making it as accurate and up to date as we can.

Jayski: Who’s the BullyPedia team consist of?

Ran: You can’t run a site without great people behind you. Pedigree administrators like you and Jennifer are our backbone. Without you guys, the pedigree database would fall apart and if  that happens i’ll be back for more sleepless nights. Lol. No joke, you and jen are freakin’ awesome. Thanks for all your hard work!
